Race2 , a review

Well well well, where do I start? I've always been a huge fan of Race (2008). Instead, i've been a huge fan of few of director duo Abbas-Mustan's thriller right from Gupt, Soldier, Ajnabee & most recently Race. They were few of the movies i started enjoying in the genre of thrill. So I was too excited for their latest serving, Race2. To cut the long story short, I was disappointed. And that too, to the core. I mean, I have fond memories of watching Race in a jam-packed house of Sapna Cinema, Ulhasnagar amidst clapping & whistling audience. Each action sequence was aesthetically done. Each twist was able enough to keep you seated at the edge. The larger than life extravaganza which is a crucial part of AB thriller was quite believable. Whereas coming back to Race2, all you find is sub-standardised animated action. Predictable story line/twists. That spark of AB thriller is missing everywhere. Body show by male actors and skin show by females for the heck of it. Music has always been a plus point of AB thriller. Right from Viju Shah adding the melody to Gupt in the form of 'mere khwabon mein tu' & 'duniya haseeno ka mela' till Pritam doing the same for the disaster called Players (Dil ye beqaraar kyun hai). Even the soundtrack of Race was notch higher than Race2. Whatever Pritam did in Race2 doesn't fits in the category of music to my ears atleast. It was out and out clubbing together of few irritating techno sounds that pierces through your ears. And talking about the action, God! WTF were AB thinking during the principal photography ?? I haven't seen such mediocre computer generated pictures in ages. I want to pin-point two main incidents from the movie. First, the holy shroud robbery sequence. Dear AB, stop reading cheap detective novels for God sake. I mean, even a 5th grader would predict the outcome of it. Secondly, the boxing fight between John Abraham & Typhoon. It was simply brilliant. Probably the only reason AB would have hired this "pehalwaan" was this s cene. He can't act. Take it in writing. John Abraham can't act. Performance wise, Saif Ali Khan stole the show. He has come a long way I tell you. I loved his performance as well as his styling. Anil Kapoor tried to provide the comic relief but was more lingering towards irritating. None of the female leads are worth my comments. All they did was cleavage show. On the whole, Race2 is a disaster for me. A colossal failure I would say. 1*/5*
