Review of Chala Musaddi Office Office...

It is one of those films with which I fell in love with all over again while writing this review. Well there couldn't have been any other better time to release this movie. Right now the entire country is going through the demon of Corruption and the efforts to fight against it. What made Chala Musaddi Office Office [CMOO] more thought provoking for me was the timing.

There is nothing new in the story. It's the same old Musaddi-Lal-gaga. The one we witnessed on small screen for a long time. But Musaddi is a story of every Common Man. We're made to re-think about our gen-next when we see this movie. Musaddi's wife passes away due to negligence of hospital authorities [the kidney racket]. He goes to the Ganges to disperse the ashes of his wife. There he comes across the same old Pandey Ji, Bhatia, Shukla, Patel and Ushaji is the train and at the banks of the holy river.

When he comes back he realises that his identity is ticked as 'dead' in the Government Records due to non-sense uttering of the word 'Lamba' by one of his neighbour. Then his journey starts to prove that he is alive.

What made CMOO more worth my bucks is the characters in it. Pankaj Kapur sir as Musaddi is someone who, at one moment, can make you laugh at his simple pronunciation of 'HAIN JI!' and can make you cry just from his facial expression in the other. Though the film looks old in it's feel. Today's Govt. Office is not what it was few years back. Now the computers have replaced the typewriters. Director failed in this part. He must have kept the story in sync with the modern times. Also souple of scenes are bit stretched [TV after-effect I guess]. But apart from that, I personally didn't found any other fault in the movie.

Pandey ji [Hemant Pandey] proved his mettle once again as an actor by portraying coward guy, Bhatia [Manoj Pahwa] as KHAAU officer, Shukla[Sanjay Mishra] as peon but who is more effective than the Senior-most official, Patel [Deven Bhojani] as "do baatein ho jayengi" guy and Usha ji [Asawari] as the women official who performs he personal house-hold work in office.

The second USP of the movie apart from it's characters is the dialogues which are full of satire and sarcasm. You won't get some high-octane Babu Bhaiya[Paresh Rawal] kinda rocking-rollicking laughter. But the laughter which is subtle and is down to eart [found in everyday life] that too in bits and pieces. So, a word of caution for all those who are expecting Babu-bhaiya-chhaap laughter, stay back! this one is not for you guys, it's more for the brainy people.

I couldn't hear the lyrics properly in the theatre due to husky voice of Sukhvinder Singh. But I searched it one Google and found this line of Gulzar saahab worth praising-
"Goothli Goothli Choosa Gayaa Hai, Dekho Kaise Ye Aam Aadmi...".
This line says it all. Even Sajid-Wajid impressed me big time after Veer. Makrand Deshpande's character of Sootradhaar reminds us of the one we've already seen in Swades but still it was fun-filled. Perhaps it's one of the best picturisation of STUPID COMMON MAN on big screen ever. One of the leading amongst this category is of Naseer Sir in A Wednesday.
The confrontation scenes between Musaddi Lal and his son Bunty[Gaurav Kapur] is some-what very close to my personaly life.

The scene where Musaddi says that "Hum Global Warming Ke liye to dus minute light..." and "I can see some light beta." after that makes your heart simply wrench out to this master-actor. But the end [which is quite predictable] is made into bit Filmi-Andaaz[only this which qualifies to call this movie Filmi]..

Conclusion- Those who've even a bit of belief in the current on-going 'Corruption Hataao' movement, please go for it and get some further hope. Every film has it's own ups and downs. CMOO is no exception but still it's very good. Very very good. Watch it for Pankaj sir. Unke liye sau rupaye ka Gandhiji toh banta hai boss. :) It's and irony that a stupid film like Singham or Dabangg gets away with all the awards due to heavy publicity and the money-power and small budget films like this and Rocket Singh fails to leave even it's mark.

Rating- 3*/5* [2* for the movie and 1* for Pankaj sir alone.]

Certification- U [without any cuts].
